Pat Given, stalwart of Clane History Group, passes away after short illness.

The late Pat Given.

Pat Given, stalwart of Clane History Group, has passed away after a short illness.

Pat was urbane and knowledgeable and carried his learning lightly making rare mention of the fact that he had by thesis, a Doctorate from Maynooth University.

He had also unveiled great research on Firmount House in its many guises. He was a founding member of the Clane Local History Group and the perfect MC at the launch each year of its journal.

Pat will be greatly missed by the history community in Clane and adjoining parishes.

Formerly of Roscommon town, Pat died on September 9, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown, after a short illness bravely borne.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary and is survived by his loving daughters Natasha and Gemma, son-in-law Anthony, grandchildren Sophie, Ben and David, brother Fred, extended family and close friends.

His removal is this morning, Wednesday, September 12, at  10.30am to arrive at St. Patrick and St. Brigid's Church, Clane for 11am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Mainham Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to St. Francis Hospice, Blanchardstown. House private on Wednesday morning please.
