A local Cllr has called for an upgrade of an increasingly busy road in Kildare Town.

Independent Cllr Joanne Pender has asked Kildare County Council for a review of the road off the R413 on the Melitta Road, leaving

Kildare Town which cuts across the plains to the R445 Dublin Road.

At the March Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, Cllr Pender said heavy traffic in the town and the lack of a traffic management plan is leading to disruption on this road.

“This road is increasingly being used to avoid congestion during peak times but is in very poor condition for the volume of traffic that uses it”, said Cllr Pender.

“A new school is going to be opening as well”, she added.

“I would like to see significant improvement.”

Cllr Suzanne Doyle added; “So much stuff needs to be done in Kildare Town, it’s criminal at this stage.”

Kildare County Council said it won’t form part of works this year, but an assessment may be done in 2019.

“The Roadworks Programme for 2018 has been recently agreed. This location was not included in the Roadworks Programme for 2018, however, the Municipal District Office will list the location to be surveyed and assessed for the 2019 Roadworks Programme”, the report said.
