Newbridge Family Resource Centre
One of Foróige’s core programmes for young people is starting in Newbridge Family Resource Centre on Wednesday 11 April at 2pm.
The Citizenship programme is a youth development programme that empowers young people to use their talents and initiative to make a positive difference to the world around them. It has been the core of Foróige’s work for over 40 years, and is currently sponsored by Aldi.
The Newbridge programme will meet every Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm.
Youth Officer, Darren Shanahan said “the group is suitable for young people aged 14-16 who are looking to get involved in their local community and make a difference!”
There are plenty of ways that young people can make a difference in their community, some of the previous entries to the Aldi Foróige Citizenship programme include a short video on the effects of smoking, raising awareness on homelessness, establishing a youth club for young people with additional needs and engaging refugees in the local community.
The programme aims to motivate and equip young people to make a positive difference by researching their community needs, identifying ways to benefit the community, managing a project and evaluating its’ effectiveness.
As part of the programme, young people receive positive recognition in return for their efforts in the community. Young people can also develop their communication skills, leadership and autonomy from participating in the programme.
