This morning the area immediately outside the premises is cordoned off with emergency services plastic tape and a garda was on duty - pending the arrival of technical experts who will establish the cause of the blaze.

Part of the redbrick exterior of the building has been blackened by the smoke.

Kildare Fire Chief, Celena Barrett said flames were coming from the upstairs windows when fire crews arrived from Naas and Newbridge at 11pm. The fire officers got the blaze under control fairly quickly because the building had been vacant and had been stripped out.

“There were no fixtures and fittings in there, so there wasn’t a lot of material that could actually burn behind the facade,” she said.
