Power lines hit by blizzard conditions

Hundreds of homes are without power this morning in Kildare as snow blizzards hit the county hard last night.

ESB crews have been out overnight throughout Ireland, but they have been hampered by the weather.

A Red Alert weather status remains in place until 6pm today.

However, the National Emergency Coordination Group said Met Eireann has said blizzard conditions have passed and the public safety advice to shelter indoors is withdrawn.
