Met Éireann has extended the Status Red snow-ice warning for Leinster and Munster until 6pm tomorrow.
The national weather forecaster predicts blizzard conditions tonight and during Friday in Leinster and Munster. Southern and eastern coastal counties expected to receive exceptionally high accumulations..
The warning came into effect at 1pm today.
AA Roadwatch said conditions are very dangerous around Naas, with heavy snow on all routes and strong winds. It stressed there are reports of snow drifts on several routes in the Athy area, and conditions are also poor in Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth, with snow also lying on roads in Newbridge and Kildare Town.
Blizzard conditions will extend through Leinster, Munster & Connacht overnight in strong and gusty northeasterly winds; the heaviest snowfall will be along eastern & southern counties.
