The RTE cameras were in attendance as The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI) hosted an open day at the new Dunmurry Springs Day Care Centre in Kildare on Tuesday, December 5.
The day’s proceedings were filmed, as before and after shots of the complex will be shown as part of the new series of Francis Brennan’s At Your Service programme in spring 2018.
The day care centre for people with dementia, which has recently opened on the grounds of Dunmurry Springs Golf Club at Dunmurry Hill, Rahilla Commons, operates three days a week and provides person-centred dementia-specific care to local clients.
The service provides a warm and welcoming environment for people with dementia from 9 to am 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays is availed of by 18 families.
The day care centre hasrecently relocated from its previous location at Moore Abbey in Monasterevin.
ASI Chairman John Clifford delivered the opening remarks at the event which was also attended by the ASI’s Kildare Branch, people with dementia and their family carers and Fianna Fail TD Fiona O’Loughlin.
The ASI’s Mobile Information Service Bus was parked outside the centre on the day with trained staff and volunteers providing information and support on dementia.
In addition to this, the Monasterevin Gospel Choir also performed for attendees on the day. There are 1,500 people living with dementia in Kildare.
