Clane Tennis Club’s development committee will be meeting this week to push on plans for the club. The club are delighted with the recent Sports Capital grant of €105,000.

“It was great news,” said Liam Burke. “We are all so relieved and look forward to carrying out all the improving our facilities for the ever increasing number of juniors.”

He went on to say that the club hope to have this completed over the next 18 months. The development committee are meeting next week to commence the programme.

This comprises three phases which it expects to complete over the next two years. The first is the installation of two ‘Midi’ courts for juniors under eights. This will also benefit KARE group members who use the club’s facilities.

This phase includes the expansion/resurfacing of Court 5 and new fencing. The second phase is the resurfacing of the first and second courts and the third element is the expansion to the clubhouse to include table tennis and other indoor games.

Mr Burke said the total estimate for all of the above is over €140,000. But that means that the club will have to arrange fundraising over the next year.

Mr Burke said the club must submit estimates to Sports Capital department for all work. That work must be approved before they can start. “Hopefully all three phases will be completed by end of 2018.”
