Retired group helps Naas homeless

Christmas is proving to be a busy time for the Naas Active Retired Association. The group has raised €500 for the local St. Vincent de Paul group.

The money will go towards the cost of providing meals on Christmas Day for people who are homeless in the Naas area.

“We decided to do something for people who are homeless in the town. We normally collect €3 per person from the group when we meet and somebody suggested that we donate €5 per person for this and than generated €500,” said association member Paddy Behan.

“It is principally directed at homeless people living around Naas to provide them with food. The local Vincent De Paul group organises this work anyway and so out contribution will go towards helping their work,” added Mr Behan.

The Naas Active Retired Association has about 120 people involved and they meet in McAuley Place every second week for a variety activities. On each alternative week they take a pre-arranged bus to a variety of locations and among the events being planned for the next year is a visit to the Bord Gais Theatre in February.

He said McAuley Place is a really suitable location for the meeting but because of space restriction there is a limit to the number that can attend “but we try to accommodate everybody as best we can”.
