Sun on Friday - torrential rain Saturday

A national snow-ice weather warning comes into effect at 11am this morning - but it looks as if Kildare will escape the worst of today's bad conditions.

Temperatures of between 5 and 6 degrees are predicted for this morning, although they will drop to as low as 1 degree by early this evening.

It will be a wet and cloudy morning in Kildare, with conditions clearing by lunchtime, although the rain is due to return this afternoon.

Met Eireann yesterday issued a Status Yellow snow-ice warning for the country, predicting widespread heavy and thundery showers during Wednesday and Thursday will produce hail, sleet and snow at times, leading to accumulations of ice on untreated surfaces. The warning is valid until 8pm on Thursday evening.
