Bottles collected from bottle bank at 'convenient' times in Naas

The Glassco recycling company, which has a base in Naas and recycles well in excess of 330 million bottles a year, is endeavouring to collect bottles outside peak traffic times — which are between 8am and 9.30am and later between 4pm and 5pm.

Kildare County Council has been in contact with the company following a request from Naas councillor Anne Breen.

Cllr Breen had asked that the company “desist from parking their collection vehicle on the new footpath at Tesco on the Blessington Road during peak hours of heavy traffic flow”.

Cllr Fintan Brett said the vehicle sometimes causes traffic hold-ups.

However KCC defended the company and said Glassco is committed to avoiding busy traffic times when servicing the this site “on a best efforts basis”.

However there are difficulties associated with the service demands of the bottle bank network.

This is because the company is only permitted to empty bottle banks between 7am and 7pm and there are many bottle banks to visit.

According to KCC it can be very difficult to accommodate all timing requests from all sites all the time “while at the same ensuring the bottle banks are serviced to ensure there is a capacity to meet demands”.
