Kildare County Council has responded to proposals aimed at alleviating traffic congestion on the Newbridge Road, Naas notably near the Aldi distribution centre.
Cllr Seamie Moore requested that bus parking should not be allowed on the road and, instead, that the bus stop should be situated on an off road site “thus unblocking traffic back up” for other motorists. He also said that a bus shelter opposite Sheehy Motors should not be built until the bus bay is provided.
He also called for the closure of the ‘rat run’ via Limerick Bridge. KCC responded that the cessation of bus parking is being assessed with the National Transport Authority.
KCC also said that while the closure of the ‘rat run’ is agreeable and the residents have been consulted, a public consultation process is required.
KCC also said the NTA has agreed to fund a bus shelter opposite Sheehy Motors — but this will be assessed with KCC’s district engineer.
