Kildare County Council won a Chambers Ireland, Excellence in Local Government Award in the category for Best Library Service at an awards ceremony on November 23.

The awards honour best practice, innovation and creatiavity in local government.

Kildare's entry to the category of ‘Best Library Service’ was that of the ‘Support to Secondary Schools Programme’.

The annual programme of events, workshops and classes is aimed at supporting the school curriculum as well as career and personal development for students in secondary schools.

The programme provides opportunities for young people to learn in a fun, interactive way, outside of the classroom setting.

Speaking at the awards ceremony Marian Higgins, Kildare's County Librarian said that “the award was testimony to the resourceful staff of Kildare Library Service who over the years have developed a range of programmes and services for library members that are original and imaginative”.
