Councillor asks why area of Newbridge "deprived" of urban lighting for much of December 2024

Cllr Noel Heavey (FF)

A Fianna Fáil councillor has called on Kildare County Council to explain how the Roseberry area in Newbridge “was deprived of urban lighting for as long as it was in December 2024.”

Cllr Noel Heavey tabled his question at the January meeting of Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, held on Wednesday January 15 2025.

A reply from the local authority noted that while the average length of time from report to repair/replacement is four weeks, this may be longer as was the case for the Ring of Roseberry, Newbridge.

The council explained that the situation was made worse by Storm Darragh, such that ESB were “overwhelmed” with the resulting additional workload from the storm.

The council has now requested the Public Lighting Maintenance Contractor to increase the number of electricians available so that the repair turnaround timelines can be reduced.
