There is no budget within the Municipal District to install a footpath from the Rathcurragh/Tracey's Meadows Estates, 'Newbridge side', Kildare County Council has stated.
The council was responding to a motion tabled by Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer (FG) who told the local authority there is presently no safe crossing to get to the footpath that runs on the opposite side of the road where two primary schools are located.
A report issued by Kildare County Council noted there is 'merit' in the councillor's request, as there is a lack of connectivity in this location to two large schools.
The report noted that the proposal is 'a substantial project' including land take, extensive footpaths construction and additional pedestrian crossings, and that at present, 'there is no budget within the Municipal District for these works.'
However, the report further noted, the Municipal District Office agrees to prepare drawings and costings and will work with Cllr O'Dwyer in relation to seeking funding for the project.
