The reason for the defendant's absence was heard during a case which took place at Naas District Court on Thursday, October 10 last.
A solicitor in Naas District Court said that his absent client could not make his court date as he had been bitten by a spider.
The comments were made by solicitor Tim Kennelly, who was defending his client on Thursday, October 10 last.
He explained to Judge Desmond Zaidan that his client informed him that he had woken up earlier in the day 'with a huge sore' present on his head.
Mr Kennelly then said that his client, out of concern, went to his GP, who informed him that he had been bitten by a spider.
Judge Zaidan appeared perplexed, and replied: "Have you ever heard of anyone being bitten by a spider in Ireland? Because I haven’t."
"In fairness to the man, that’s what the doctor told him," Mr Kennelly said.
Judge Zaidan adjourned the man’s case to a date in March of 2025 for hearing.
