The Moat Theatre is delighted to announce a line up of amazing shows for the coming weeks.

On Thursday, October  10, Eoin Ryan brings us Trawled — When Adventure Becomes Survival 

This is a jaw-dropping true story set on the Coral Sea, Australia.

What begins as a thrilling adventure soon spirals into a harrowing tale of survival against all odds. Trawled is a one-man biographical drama set on a prawn trawler.

Twenty-five years after his life-changing experience, Eoin Ryan brings the wild waves of the Coral Sea, Australia to life in the Moat Theatre.

Set against the meticulously crafted backdrop of a realistic stage, Trawled is a sixty-minute tour de force of storytelling that unfolds with the cinematic intensity of a blockbuster film.

Trawled — When Adventure becomes Survival is a story of epic proportions. And it’s true’ Theatre Thoughts.

Due to the content and subject matter of the play it comes with an over 16’s recommendation. The audience will be taken into a rarely seen world of hard labour and even harder fishermen.

Drinking, fighting, storms and hungry sharks are part of everyday life. What begins as an adventure, degenerates quickly into a gripping story to stay alive.

Written, produced, and acted by Eoin Ryan, Trawled was first published as a book in 2019. In 2022 Eoin performed the story as a TEDx talk. Eoin’s motivation for going on stage and touring is to share the important universal message ‘to ask for help’.

“Having never done anything in theatre before 2022, I still felt compelled to bring this play and message to life,” he said.

October 10 is also World Mental Health day. In recognition of this, the Moat Theatre and Eoin have a €10 discounted price for under 18’s to attend the play. There is also an 11am performance for secondary schools only.

Saturday, October 12 sees the return of Flamenco Roots to The Moat.

Prepare for an unforgettable experience where you’ll immerse yourself in a captivating repertoire that intertwines and revives the enchanting magic of Rom (Gypsy) music from the Balkans and Egypt, tracing its roots back to India, alongside the most traditional Flamenco music and dance. This journey will transport you into a universe brimming with virtuosity, power, soul, beauty, and cultural fusion. Get ready to let the music and dance both challenge and soothe your soul as we embark on this extraordinary adventure together.

On Sunday, October 13 at 7 pm, join virtuoso violin sensation Anton Jablokov as he returns to Ireland for a memorable performance with Swiss guitarist Stefano Moccetti.

This truly dynamic blend of violin and guitar offers a unique fusion of sound across a musical genre of classical, jazz and gypsy styles.

Expect the music you know and love from Spanish Dance – De Falla, Morricone’s Once Upon A Time to Tico Tico No Fuba presented in a way you won’t forget. The Moat is also delighted to announce that Vladimir will make a guest appearance on the night.

Join international acclaimed Soprano Celine Byrne and Ireland’s favourite tenor Patrick Hyland for an evening of music from the world op opera and musicals such as Westside Story, Phantom of the Opera, Puccini’s Turandot Nessun Dorma and all your favourites.

As always, you will have an amazing night you will not forget.

Naas Record Fair will return on Sunday, October 20 from 11 am till 4 pm.

On Thursday, October 24, Arlene Bailey will perform the Janis Joplin Story — experience the tragic yet iconic story of one of America’s most talented female blues vocalists. Janis Joplin is synonymous with the Woodstock generation and in her short 27 years firmly secured her place in American music history.

U.M.A.N. U Must Act Now – UMAN, has just released his first album produced by grammy-nominated Billy Farrell. It is a testament to his commitment to excellence in music. Featuring harmony driven vocals, sophisticated songwriting and feet-tapping melodies, each track resonates with passion and purpose.

On Friday, October 25 at 8 pm, audiences can expect an electrifying experience as U.M.A.N takes the stage at the Moat as part of their Winter/Spring tour of Ireland with their all-star 6-piece band.

From the heartpounding rhythms to the soul-stirring lyrics, each performance will bring something different. With a diverse repertoire that spans genres and generations, U.M.A.N is set to leave a lasting impression on audiences.

U.M.A.N has recorded, performed or written for artists as diverse as folk blues legend Eric Bibb, Brian Kennedy, Finbar Furey, Michael Flatley and Nadine Coyle.

His track Flamin’ Day which he performed on the Late Late Show was a nationwide radio hit as was his biographical tribute to Adele, 

The Adele Song released through Universal Music which garnered critical acclaim, showcasing U.M.A.N’s versatility and creativity.

And for the kiddies – Jakula will return on Monday October 28 at 2pm — join him on a spooktacular quest to step out of his older brother’s shadow (Dracula!) and become the world’s first fun vampire. Enjoy magic, juggling and tricks that are entertaining for the whole family.
