People in Camphill Communities of Ireland are finding their voice.

“Having a say in all things that effect your life is one of the most important Human Rights."

This is the call from the CCOI Voices group. The Voices group represent individuals who live and attend Camphill Services across Ireland. They are holding a National Conference on the issue of Human Rights on the 8th of November in Hoban Hotel Kilkenny. The Voices self-advocacy group will be officially launching their inaugural national conference this week.

The Conference titled “Our say + Our voice = Our Choice” will address issues as they pertain to people with disabilities. Many interesting speakers will address the conference on the day, including Voices group members, self-advocate Mei Lin Yap and Minister Anne Rabbitte TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for Disability. The Voices group are leading the conversation on human rights and some of the topics that will be explored will include building confidence with public speaking and enhancing the role the group members have in decision making within the organisation.

Camphill Communities of Ireland set up a Human Rights Committee in 2024 and the Voices group is one of the key pillars of enhancing Human rights. The Conference promises to be a milestone in the journey for the Voices group who have made every effort to ensure an engaging and thought-provoking programme of events. Attendees can expect to build connections and discuss common issues and interests.
