An online fundraiser to provide clean water for Gaza has been set up by the Kildare Palestine Solidarity Campaign (KPSC).

The fundraiser, which is titled 'Uisce for Gaza! (Get fresh water to the people of Gaza)', was set up on GoFundMe by KPSC members Siobhain Grogan, Anne Marie Ruby Reid and Caroline McCarthy, on behalf of Mohammed Alazzami.

According to the organisers of the page: "Do you feel powerless watching the horrific images coming from Gaza?

"During a recent call with Mohammed Alazzami, a father, grandfather, and teacher currently displaced in Khan Younis, Gaza, the KPSG learned about the severe challenges faced by Gaza residents, as Israel has damaged huge amounts of water infrastructure, forcing people to walk long distances to reach the nearest water pumps.

"The KPSC has launched this Go Fund Me campaign to help Mohammed to raise funds for new water pipelines and larger trucks to transport water to the local population and your help is needed today."

The organisers also provided the following information:

  • €5 will pay for 75 litres, enough for three days for a family of seven.
  • €10 will pay for 150 litres, enough for six days for a family of seven.
  • €20 will pay for 300 litres, enough for six days for two families of seven.
  • €50 will pay for 750 litres, enough for six days for five families of seven.
  • €100 will pay for 1,500 litres, enough for six days for 10 families of seven.
  • €500 will pay for 7,500 litres, enough for six days for 50 families of seven.

They added: "By supporting this initiative, you can make a significant difference to the lives of many."

"For more details about Mohammed's efforts and to hear his story first-hand, visit the KPSC’s Instagram or Facebook page," the organiser concluded.

As of the time of publication, the fundraiser has raised €22,926 of its €30,000 goal.
