Members of An Garda Síochána based in County Kildare are investigating a suspected arson incident which occurred in the Rosconnell region of Newbridge.

Garda Brian Carroll of Newbridge Garda Station appeared as a guest on KFM earlier this morning to discuss the incident.

He said that it took place in the early hours of Tuesday, July 30 last, in the Rosconnell area of Newbridge.

Gda Carroll explained that the occupants of the home were woken up in the middle of the night by a smoke alarm.

"They discovered a fire and also that a nearby window had been smashed," he added.

Gda Carroll also said that all occupants managed to escape, and the fire service had managed to extinguish the blaze.

However, he stressed: "A substantial amount of damage was done to the home."

Gda Carroll concluded by urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact Newbridge Garda Station on 045 440 180.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about the incident, a garda spokesperson replied: "Gardaí responded to reports of a fire at a domestic residence in Newbridge, County Kildare, in the early hours of yesterday morning, Tuesday, July 30, 2024."

"The incident occurred at approximately 3am and local fire services extinguished the fire.

"There were no reports of injuries.

"The scene was preserved for technical examination."

They concluded: "Investigations are ongoing."
