O`Loughlin declares her intention to contest next General Election in Kildare South

Senator Fiona O’Loughlin has announced her intention to contest the next General Election for Fianna Fáil in Kildare South.
Senator O'Loughlin has written to Fianna Fáil Party members to seek support at the upcoming convention, for which no date has yet been set.
Based in Newbridge, Senator O’Loughlin is Deputy Leader of the Seanad, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Education, Leader of the Irish Delegation to the Council of Europe, Parliamentary Party liaison with the Fianna Fáil Women’s Network, Vice Chair of the Oireachtas Education Committee, Chair of the Oireachtas Women’s Caucus and Chair of the All-Party Committee on Dementia.
She previously served as a Newbridge town Cllr, Kildare Co Cllr, Mayor of Kildare and TD for Kildare South.
Commenting on her intention to contest the General Election, Senator O’Loughlin said: “Now that the Local and European Elections have taken place, I am announcing my intention to put my name forward to context the next General Election for Fianna Fáil in Kildare South.
“My priorities remain working the delivery of a second bridge, new library and Arts Centre in Newbridge, along with the new 1,000 student school with four SEN classes for South Kildare.
“I will continue to prioritise making public transport more affordable and accessible, increasing supports for children with special needs, delivering sustainable housing and improved leisure amenities and services for our communities.
"I will also continue my work on issues such as educational opportunities, business rates and supports, dementia and care for our elderly people, agriculture and the equine industry, housing, crime and anti-social behaviour."
As party Spokesperson on Education, Senator O'Loughlin has worked closely with Minister for Education Norma Foley to help deliver free schoolbooks, anti-bullying initiatives and extra supports for children with additional needs as well as working on the school transport review.
Senator O'Loughlin has also collaborated with Minister Stephen Donnelly on improving women’s health initiatives, with Minister Mary Butler on supports for those living with dementia and with Minister Jack Chambers on delivering fairer fares for commuters, extending commuter fares and improving the Kildare rural transport network.
She has introduced legislation on hate crime, state sponsored IVF, domestic violence and the protection of the Curragh plains.
O'Loughlin said: “It is a privilege to work on behalf of the people of Kildare South. I have always had a strong belief in the power of politics as a force for good.
“I want to bring this belief forward and contest the next General Election for Kildare South as I want to do everything I can to make our county and country a place that we can all be proud of, where everyone has the chance to live, work, own a home and live a happy, healthy and safe life.”
