UPDATED: More turning out to vote in Kildare but it won't be busy until this evening

Staff at polling stations in County Kildare are not expecting a discernible rise in numbers voting until this evening.

By lunchtime today some 13% of voters had turned up at two polling stations to cast their ballots.

But this was at the upper end of voter turnout in the county so far.

In Sallins, the turout was 9% and one station in Leixlip also returned a figure of 9% by lunchtime.

In Rathangan, some 10% of the electorate had voted, which was similar to a station in Clane.

In Naas, one station has 12.8% and other stations were as follows Athy (12%), Celbridge (10.7%), Maynooth (10.8%), Leixlip (11%) and Confey (10.7%).
