'Wrecks the house with his fists'

A Mixed Material Arts fighter attacked his grandfather, mother and grandmother, it was claimed at Naas District Court.

The man’s grandad and another family relative sought court protection under family law legislation.

The grandfather alleged the man is very violent and gets into rages.

“He’s an MMA fighter and he is very strong and dangerous."

The court heard that the man wrecks the house, has punched holes in the walls and damaged doors with his fists.

“He had his grandmother by the throat,” he said.

The man’s uncle described him as violent and abusive, adding he thinks he has mental health issues.

The man was not present and not represented.

He said he is abusing substances and is taking testosterone and steroids.

The court was also told that he threatened to burn cars.

Judge Desmond Zaidan spoke of a case where someone who killed his wife got away with the crime because it was deemed to be caused by cannabis-induced psychosis.

He said this was accepted as a defence and “not a peep out of anyone about it.” The judge granted an interim protection orders to both applicants.
