Kildare man says his ex-partner is ‘retaliating’ against him with assault allegations

CLAIM
A County Kildare man has said that his ex-partner is 'retaliating' against him by accusing him of domestic violence.
The claim was made by a defendant involved in an alleged domestic violence case, which was heard during an in-camera (in private) court session in Naas District Court.
On Wednesday, May 16 last, two gardaí gave testimony to Judge Zaidan in relation to the case.
The man stands accused of assault causing harm against his ex-partner in County Kildare on a date in 2023, and the Director of Public Prosecutions indicated that the judge should deal with the matter via summary disposal.
It was claimed that the woman sustained two black eyes as a result of the alleged assault, and photographs of her injuries were shown to the judge by the two gardaí.
The first garda noted that after the man’s arrest, he was cautioned in the usual manner, made no reply after caution, and he was given a true copy of the charge sheet.
The second garda told the judge that he also cautioned the man in the usual manner, and his reply after caution to the garda was: "I am reporting you again."
He also gave the accused a true copy of the charge sheet.
Speaking directly to the judge, the man’s solicitor, Brian Larkin, said that his client 'is frustrated' with the allegations levelled against him, and denies ever committing the offence.
Mr Larkin’s client then told the judge: "This (accusation) is fabricated; this is her retaliating against me for a charge that I brought up against her."
Judge Zaidan accepted jurisdiction over the case and adjourned it to a date in October for hearing.
He remanded the defendant on continuing bail until the case resumes.
