ROUND UP: Briefs from the latest Clane-Maynooth MD meeting for April 2024

The meeting took place at Kildare County Council's headquarters (Áras Chill Dara) on Friday, April 5 last.

MILL STREET ACTIVE TRAVEL SCHEME START DATE

Kildare County Council (KCC) has provided a start date for the Mill Street Active Travel Scheme.

The council gave the date in response to a motion by Fianna Fáil councillor Naoise Ó Cearúil at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Friday, April 5 last.

Cllr Ó Cearúil motioned for KCC to upgrade Maynooth Town Centre's roads and footpaths.

In response, the council said: "The MD office plans to resurface the Main Street in 2025.

"Footpath upgrades will be guided by the Public Realm Master Plan."

KCC added: "The Mill Street Active Travel Scheme is due to commence on site in Quarter 3 / Quarter 4 2024.”

NO REVIEW PLANNED

A traffic and road safety review is not being planned for Newtown Village in Kilcock, despite a call from Fianna Fáil Cllr Paul Ward to do so.

KCC told Cllr Ward: "The MD office does not have the resources to carry out this review currently."

WARNING SIGNS DUE

Warning signs are due for the approach roads to the entrance of Timahoe Playground.

KCC told Fine Gael Cllrs Brendan Weld and Brendan Wyse (who both suggested the signs via joint motion): "The MD office will arrange for warning signs to be erected on approach to Timahoe playground."

NEW MARKINGS

An update on the installation of new road marking/signs on Connaught Street, Kilcock, was given by KCC.

The council told Fianna Fáil Cllr Paul Ward that it is proposed for new markings to be installed in April/May 2024, 'once the weather is suitable.'

COMPLETION DATE

An update was sought by Fianna Fáil Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick in relation to cemetery works.

KCC told Cllr Fitzpatrick: "Landscaping improvement works have commenced in Staplestown Cemetery and following another round of weed control and grass cutting, we will be advancing to civil improvement works, so as to bring the new section live."

"The estimated works completion date is early summer 2024," KCC added.

DISABILITY ACCESS

Fianna Fáil Cllr Tim Durkan asked Kildare County Council for an update on improvement works and disability access to the Maynooth Community Space.

KCC told Cllr Durkan: "This Community Space is currently on a list of buildings awaiting assessment."

"It is hoped to have the assessment completed in Quarter 2 of 2024," the council added.

ROAD SPACE SOUGHT

KCC has issued a statement regarding a Section 38 assessment of requests to reallocate road space to improve active travel on the L1023 Ballinagappa Road in Clane.

The council told Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy that the design of the Section 38 is expected to be advertised in Quarter 2 of 2024.
