A suspected €100,000 drugs case was heard again and marked peremptory against the State in Naas District Court on Thursday, March 7 last.
Back in January of 2023, Judge Desmond Zaidan was told that Patrick O’ Halloran, with an address listed as 2687 Dara Park in Newbridge, was accused of storing the drugs at his home on December 21, 2022.
Judge Desmond Zaidan was informed by gardaí on Thursday, January 12, 2023, that the 62-year-old stored €80,000 worth of suspected cannabis in the hot press of his home.
Gardaí also claimed that they found a further €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis in his kitchen.
In addition, gardaí allegedly found €32,000 in cash and around €6,000 of suspected diamorphine, which Garda Sergeant Brian Jacob alleged was heroin.
Sgt Jacob also said that a money-laundering charge against Mr O’ Halloran is being considered in the case.
On the latest court date, it was heard that Directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were still not ready in the case.
'IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE'
Mr O’Halloran’s solicitor, Brian Larkin, criticised these delays, saying: "It’s not rocket science where this case is going to go."
He added that the case 'has been hanging over' his client for some time.
Mr Larkin applied for a strike-out due to the delays, but Garda Sergeant David Hanrahan sought one further adjournment.
Judge Zaidan decided to adjourn the case to July 4 for DPP directions, and also decided to mark the case peremptory against the State.
