Free hot water could be provided to some homes in County Kildare by using surplus renewable energy.

Cllr Noel Connolly told a Kildare County Council meeting that is being done in the Fingal County Council area.

He added this could be done in partnership with EnergyCloud, a not-for-profit company which works to divert surplus renewal energy, which would otherwise be wasted. It focuses on homes in fuel poverty.

KCC official Marian Higgins said that there is no existing partnership with EnergyCloud.

She added: “We will investigate the possibility for partnership further” adding information has been sought from the company on their system."

She said action will be considered once a reply is received.

Ms Higgins said the project with Fingal County Council began in May and “is very impressive.”
