KILDARE COURT: 'Drug addict son wrote off parents' car'

Allegation

There is increasing concern over the future of Naas Courthouse

Naas Courthouse

The parents of a young man, described as a drug addict, obtained a barring order against him at Naas District Court.

His parents told the court he had caused “so much trouble" and “we can’t live with it anymore.”

The court was also told that they have younger children.

The father told the court he had recently had a medical issue, after not having one for a number of years.

He said that when he was in hospital his son took his car and wrote it off.

He described his son as a “very angry young lad”.

The son implied that he took the car after another party implied he was responsible for the recurrence of his father’s illness.

The son, aged in his early 20s, also said he had been doing well with Narcotics Anonymous and he had made an appointment with an addiction treatment centre.

The  father said his son had taken a seizure because of drugs and his mother said other children are terrified.

Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that the parents are not obliged to let him live at home because he has passed 18 years of age.

He said the parents “have been through hell.”

The judge granted a barring order of one year's duration.

He said this could be addressed again if the son takes measures to deal with his drug issue and his parents are happy with this.
