Kildare County Council (KCC) has been asked to conduct a feasability study in relation to a proposed skate park or pump-bike track in Kilcullen.

The call was made by Fine Gael councillor Tracey O'Dwyer at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) meeting, which was held on Wednesday, November 15 last.

Specifically, she put forward the following motion at the meeting: “That the council carry out a suitability assessment for a youth activity such as a pump bike track or skate park on the council owned land between the Business Park and the rear of Kilcullen GAA.”

Her motion was seconded by Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly.

KCC issued the following response to Cllr O'Dwyer's motion: “A feasibility study on the proposed site can be carried out.”

CAVEAT

“However, it won’t be possible to dedicate staff resources to this until existing projects and works outlined in the Parks Section Works Programme have been completed first,” KCC added.

Cllr O'Dwyer said that she would hope to see the study conducted in early 2024.

She added: “It is an ideal location for the activities, and it would help to address the gap of youth facilities (in Kilcullen).”

PROGRESS REPORT

When she asked KCC to include the matter on the MD's progress report, a representative with the Parks Department of KCC said that they would keep Cllr O'Dwyer updated on the matter.

In addition, Cllr O'Dwyer asked KCC to see a list of projects that have been given priority over the feasibility study.

The same KCC representative said that they would also provide her with this list.
