Councillor Paddy Curran has been co-opted to Kildare County Council (KCC) for Fine Gael (FG).

His appointment was confirmed at a meeting of KCC earlier today, and follows the resignation of Cllr Mark Stafford back in July, when he was appointed as County Registrar for Louth.

Cllr Curran lives in Kildare town with his wife, and works for the Irish Stable Staff Association.

Commenting on the co-option today, Cllr Curran said: "I am delighted to be co-opted as a member of KCC to represent the people of the Kildare electoral area, and Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District.

"I particularly look forward to engaging with and working on behalf of the many great community and voluntary groups across the district who make such an important contribution to our area," he added.

FG Deputy Martin Heydon also welcomed Cllr Curran's appointment.

He said: "It is great that Paddy has joined our local FG team in Kildare South.

"He has a wealth of experience working in his local community and representing individuals from the bloodstock industry.

Deputy Heydon added: "He will be a great representative for the people of Kildare on the county council, and I look forward to working with him in his new role."
