A section of the M50 motorway in south Dublin was closed for a short period yesterday evening as emergency services tackled a bus on fire.

The incident happened on the northbound lanes near Junction 15 (Carrickmines).

Images and footages shared by passers-by showed the single-decker bus completely engulfed in flames.

The blaze and thick smoke could be seen for several miles away.

Dublin Fire Brigade said that four fire engines rushed to the scene and added that visibility was affected by smoke on the southbound carriageway.

Personnel were sent from Dun Laoghaire, Rathfarnham and Donnybrook fire stations.
