Con Cummins
Con Cummins was awarded the O’Connor/Baroda Cup, as part of the Gerard Manley Hopkins 35th International Festival, for his support of the Society.
His father, Con, was proud that their early meetings took place in his pub.
Con Cummins grew up over the family pub in Newbridge, with his brothers, John – Father John, who died young - Garrett and sister, Maria. Con still lives there.
Con’s grandfather, John, bought the pub in the early1900’s. His mother, Renée’s family owned a Pub in Naas, Murtagh’s Corner. Con cared for Renée, until she died in 2020.
“Every pub has its own personality. Everyone has a story.”
“Many customers can sing and play instruments. It happens spontaneously.”
There’s a Liars Corner and a Danger Zone. Over two years, six couples, who used to sit there, got married.
“I always remember women being in the pub. My great aunts ran a pub.”
Con studied Property and Economics and worked in London.
He was happy to come home and help his father run the pub. Con is an eligible bachelor, cultured, interested in drama and travel. He plans to go to Argentina and trace relatives, just as his mother did before, him.
