A man has been prosecuted with  possession of drugs for sale or supply after a garda car was rammed.

Before Naas District Court was Dylan Lennon, 27, whose address was given as 6 Kilbelin Close, Newbridge, for allegedly having drugs for sale or supply at Clownings, Newbridge and 925 Moorefield Crescent, Newbridge, on July 14 and July 15 last.

Detective Garda Seamus Doyle said the street value of the drugs, cocaine and ecstasy, found at Moorefield was €70,000

He said a quantity of drugs were found in a plastic container in a car.

He told the court this car was driven at a garda patrol car occupied by two gardaí and collided with the garda car before two of the three occupants escaped.

The court heard that the third occupant was detained.

The court heard that the defendant denied living at Moorefield Crescent but Gda Doyle said the property owner said he lived there and paid rent.

Defending solicitor Tim Kennelly said the defendant made no admissions and was adamant he was in the front seat. Mr Kennelly also said the vehicle had tinted windows.

Mr Kennelly said there is no evidence the defendant would not turn up in court again

Cross examined by Mr Kennelly, Gda Doyle said there was no formal lease covering the tenancy but it was being leased on a short term basis.

Garda Martin Staunton said he was in a garda car being driven up a country lane when a VW Golf car “came straight into us.” He said the defendant came out of the passenger side of the vehicle  and was rugby tackled to the ground by Garda Dunne.

The defendant told they court he knew nothing about the drugs found at the house and said he did not live there.

He also said that he knew nothing about the drugs found in the car.

It was also claimed by the State that some of drugs were “bagged up” and ready for sale.

The defendant was also found with €1,950, which he said was a loan from his mother to buy a bicycle.

It was also claimed on behalf of the defendant that CCTV images from three businesses will show that he was in the front of the car and not the back as stated by the prosecution.

The defendant was granted bail, subject to conditions including that he reside at his address, sign on at a garda station and attend court hearings.
