Petrol and diesel prices are set to rise
The cheapest litre of petrol in the country will cost you 157.9c it has been revealed, as latest figures show that prices for diesel and petrol have stabilized around the country.
Spar Ballon N80 service station in Tipperary is advertising petrol at this price, with diesel at 146.9C,
Meanwhile, MCL 24 Hour station at Ballymany in Newbridge is listed on pumps.ie as the lowest price in the country, as of yesterday. All prices listed for today break the 160c per litre mark, apart from the price advertised in Tipperary.
And diesel is coming in at 10C cheaper for the lowest price in the country at Maxol on the Clonakilty Road in Bandon which had the joint lowest price at 149.9C per litre yesterday, on pumps.ie along with the MCL Station in Newbridge.
Prices can vary significantly, by 5c or more from station to station, so it's worth checking the forecourt price before filling up.
Latest figures from AA Ireland show that the average price of petrol per litre in June was 164c and for diesel it 152c a litre.
This meant that the average petrol price in July was unchanged compared with June.
Diesel prices are slightly up, rising by 2c more than they were in June.
The price of a litre of petrol without taxes would be 69.21c and 70.32c for diesel.
There is some bad news on the way for motorists as from September 1, excise duty rates will increase by 7c for petrol and 5c for diesel.
And on October 31, there will be a final increase of 8c for petrol and 6c for diesel as excise rates are fully restored.
At the start of June, duty on petrol increased by 6c per litre, and 5c per litre on diesel from the first day of the month.
The Government announced a temporary reduction in the excise duties on petrol and diesel, in March of 2022 as part of a suite of cost-of-living measures.
At the time, the duty was reduced by 20c per litre of petrol and 15c per litre of diesel.
