KILDARE COURT: Man under the influence of drugs while minding three year old child

Allegation

There is increasing concern over the future of Naas Courthouse

Naas Courthouse

A man was under the influence of drugs while minding a three year old child, it was claimed at Naas District Court.

The child's mother appeared at court via video link for an alleged breach of a domestic violence order.

The court was told the incident took place on May 18 in the Naas area.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said the woman came across the child and her partner. He added she said he should not have been minding the child  this way. He added the injured party had made a statement of complaint.

The woman told the court she did not threaten him but told him it wasn't okay for him to be minding the child while taking drugs.

“I didn’t threaten to kill him,” she said.

The court was also told that the woman is being separately prosecuted for the theft of alcohol at an address in Dublin and this issue was referred to a Dublin court after Judge Desmond Zaidan granted bail. Her father, who was present  in court, said he would bring her to that court sitting.

Judge Zaidan commented that the injured party is known to the court adding, “I’m not trying to discredit him.”

Adjourning the matter, he said he was reluctant to keep the defendant in custody for a prolonged period.
