Kildare artist to showcase her work in major Irish Art Centre

Festival of Light by Elsie Nolan

The Leitrim Design House are delighted to showcase a beautiful new exhibition of paintings titled Come In Silence, by Kildare artist Elsie Nolan on ART WALL from June 24.

This collection is in oil and mixed media, drawing inspiration from Irelands stunning land and seascapes. The preliminary work for this new series involved researching colour and texture and allowing the experience of vast spaces, wild winds, peace and tranquillity to inspire and inform the work. In today’s hectic world of constant and fast communication, the artist wishes to share a quiet moment and hopes this work offers stillness to those who engage with it. Elsie is a multifaceted visual artist based in Castledermot, South Kildare. She has been painting for 20 years, experimenting with mediums such as oil, acrylic, ink, pastel, wax, copper and gold leaf to create textured and multi-layered work.

She endeavours to capture the extraordinary present within the ordinary, she says of her work, "What I create reflects my experience with both elemental and ethereal qualities. Painting what I see but also what I imbibe. My paintings are inspired by land and sea and respond to what affects my spirit; such as light, sounds, silence and colour. My best work ‘arrives’ when my thinking brain leaves. At this point the process becomes meditative and I trust some deeper sense within me. This trust is my most important tool and allows me to see more. This is the ingredient which I believe makes my work resonate with others."

Elsie studied at Limerick College of Art and has participated in both solo and group exhibitions around Ireland such as Eigse, Carlow curated by Patrick Murphy RHA, Carlow Arts Festival 2008 and Carlow Artist’s Exhibition 2002, which earned attention by art critic Aidan Dunne in The Irish Times. Elsie’s work hangs in many public and private collections nationally and internationally.
