Eason is delighted to announce Kristen Meehan as this year’s winner of the All-Ireland Eason Spelling Bee Final which took place recently in The Helix, Dublin.
Kristen Meehan, who is a sixth-class pupil at Scoil Bhríde Milltown, Kildare, took home the prize following an intense spelling battle against Connacht/Ulster champion, Rita Regiec from St. Louis GNS in Monaghan, and Munster champion, Colin O’Brien from St. John the Baptist BNS in Tipperary.
Along with the coveted crown, the top Bee took home a collection of books for their school library, worth €7,500 as well as a personal collection of books worth €500.
Celebrating its tenth year, the Eason Spelling Bee provides a fun, educational outlet for school kids, encouraging them to read more and expand their vocabulary.
Group Head of Marketing at Eason, Brendan Corbett, said; “At Eason, we can’t quite believe that we are celebrating the 10th year of the Eason Spelling Bee. It’s a tremendous achievement and a testament to the bright-sparks of the nation. We’re incredibly proud to have created something that allows children to engage in an educational activity that develops their literacy, spelling, confidence and gives them so much enjoyment.”
This year, over 500 schools nationwide competed against each other in a bid to win the sought-after prize. The Eason Spelling Bee team have travelled around the country to host County and Provincial Final Bees. The champions from these went head-to-head in the All-Ireland Final Bee, which took place recently, with Kristen Meehan crowned Queen Bee.
