A total of €3.66m is allocated to Naas Hospital to assist with renovations and increasing space around St Mary's in Naas and to complete a modular unit consisting of 12 single rooms to aid in the isolation of suspected Covid 19 and other cases.
€600,000 has also been allocated to Naas Hospital progress plans for a new 50-bed Acute mental health unit to replace Lakeview.
Mr Heydon said: "At St. Vincent's in Athy, €560k will be allocated to progress plans for renovating an existing vacant nightingale ward, converting it into a Day Care Centre. The existing Day Care Centre will be relocated to the refurbished area, and €1.2m will be allocated for a Community Nursing Unit, replacing existing capacity as per the Service Priority List.
"An amount of €1.44m has been designated for the renovation of the existing dispensary building at Drogheda Street, Monasterevin. These works are ongoing and will provide accommodation for the return of the day care centre and primary care services for older people which will very welcome.
"Furthermore, €300k will be directed towards renovating and converting the vacant Kilmeague Health Centre into a Community Daycare / Meals on Wheels facility to be operated by St. Vincent de Paul, while €50k will be utilized for a 10-bed High Support Community Residence in Kildare town ”
"These projects have been eagerly awaited by their respective local communities, and I have been actively urging the HSE to make progress on them. The confirmation of these funds under the 2023 Capital Plan further strengthens the momentum to see them through this year, which is great news."
