Poll reveals Kildare's favourite Abba song - as Abbaesque tribute act take to stage on Friday for Guineas weekend at Curragh

County Kildare’s favourite Abba song of all time is ‘Dancing Queen’ according to a poll carried out in the county for the Curragh Racecourse by the Leinster Leader/Kildare Now to mark their monster 70s themed party headlined by super tribute band Abbaesque which kicks off the big Tattersalls Guineas Festival this Friday evening after racing.

 Yes, two in every 5 (40%) people in Kildare said that the Swedish super group’s 1976 smash hit was their favourite Abba song and probably rightly so as not only was it their fourth no.1 in the UK but more significantly it was their only no.1 in the USA.

The poll also found that 1 in every 4 (25%) voted for ‘Waterloo’ whilst ‘The Winner Takes It All’ came in at third (15%).

Other popular runner-up songs were Fernando, Mamma Mia, Voulez-Vous, Super Trouper and Take A Chance On Me.

The famous social and sporting weekend at the Curragh venue is set to kick off with an evening meeting of top-class racing this Friday 26th May and management there are urging as many people as possible to raid their old wardrobes and attics and come along in their best 70’s and Abba costumes with Irish Derby tickets up for grabs for the best dressed on the night.

Tickets are available online now from €15 and under 18s are free into the racecourse when accompanied by an adult.

Free shuttle bus available - The racecourse continues to provide a free shuttle bus service, kindly sponsored by Manguard Plus, to and from Newbridge and Kildare stations and town centres for all race days.

The return Expressway service from Dublin will also be in operation for the Saturday and Sunday of Guineas Festival.  The service will depart from Busáras, stopping at the Red Cow Luas Stop before continuing to The Curragh Racecourse. Book online at expressway.ie
