Kildare County Council has effectively thrown cold water on a proposal for a new playground in Naas.
Although KCC official Simon Wallace said there was no objection in principle to a the new facility he listed a series of likely problems.
Cllr Bill Clear said he was seeking a “natural playground” for the Fairgreen area and would be small in scale.
He said it would encourage more people to come to the centre of the town and there are parking spaces in the area.
He added that the location has “good passive surveillance.”
However, Mr Wallace countered that the council has an extensive list of similar amenity He also said the open space has functioned as a venue for funfairs and circuses for a long time.
He added councillors need to agree on what is desirable for the site because a number of proposals have been put forward for the site over time. He also pointed out that archaeological considerations on may be an issue as will as the availability of finance.
He also told a Naas Municipal District meeting that “it's doubtful that we will get to it next year.”
