€11m extension to school on Kildare/Wicklow border gets green light

A €11m extension to St Kevin's Community College in Dunlavin has been approved.

Wicklow County Council granted planning permission to Kildare and Wicklow Education Training Board, according to the  Construction Information Service database.

The existing single-storey school building (c 2,139sq.m) will be demolished and temporary classroom accommodation will be removed.

Part of the existing two-storey school building will be refurbished and a three-storey extension (8,023sq.m) will be built. 

The extension will include classrooms, a special education need (SEN) unit, a library and administrative and ancillary spaces.

Two new Multi Use Games Areas, a outdoor classroom/ biodiversity area, a SEN external play area are also in the plans. 

The existing set-down area on the R412 regional road will be upgraded to provide cars only.

A new bus only set-down area is also in the designs.

Upgraded footpaths and pedestrian crossings are also planned. 

The planning documents provide for 82 new car parking spaces and 200 sheltered bicycle spaces.

Landscaping and solar roof panels are also expected.

Temporary classrooms and other facilities will allow for phased construction.
