Aras Chill Dara
Motorists can turn up at the motor taxation office in Aras Chill Dara - but they will have to queue behind those who’ve made an appointment.
The office is open to the public from 9am. to 3.15pm.
And while the office operates an appointment system with 88 slots available per day, customers can also walk in, and they will be facilitated.
But customers with appointments get priority.
Customers who walk in without an appointment must wait.
According to Kildare County Council “the feedback on the ground” is that most people prefer the booking system “as there is certainty that they can be in and out of the office in less than 15 minutes.”
KCC also pointed out that a number of other local authorities do not have their motor tax offices open to the public at all, including Dublin and Cork.
Over 90% of motor tax transactions in Kildare are carried out online. KCC says the appointment system is working and it is intended to continue with it.
Cllr Bernard Caldwell called for the public to be allowed access to the office and said that the 10% who need to do so should be accommodated.
