The Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD) could be twinned with a Ukrainian MD or town soon.
Fianna Fáil councillor Suzanne Doyle put forward a motion at the latest Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting on Wednesday, March 15, in which she called on Kildare County Council to 'send a recommendation to the twinning committee requesting that Kildare-Newbridge MD be twinned with a similar MD/town in Ukraine, as an act of solidarity recognising the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.'
This motion was supported by her party colleague Cllr Rob Power.

In response to Cllr Doyle's motion, Kildare County Council said: "The decision to enter into a twinning arrangement is a reserved function and should be referred to the Twinning Liaison Committee.
"However, there are budget constraints and limited resources which will need to be considered when deciding to enter into any new twinning arrangements," KCC added.
