Kildare County Council outlines plans for Newbridge Machinery Yard

Headquarters of Kildare County Council: Áras Chill Dara in Naas

Details about Kildare County Council’s (KCC) plans for the Machinery Yard in Newbridge were revealed recently.

The information was relayed to local councillors present at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, March 15.

At the meeting, Fianna Fáil Cllr Noel Heavey motioned for KCC 'to utilise or dispose of their Machine Yard property in Newbridge, including how the community might benefit from these plans.'

Cllr Heavey’s motion was supported by Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender and Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O’ Dwyer, with the latter commenting: "It is a very valuable site for the people of Newbridge."

In its report at the meeting, KCC said: "The construction of the new Machinery Yard is progressing well, and it is expected that the project will be delivered on target.

"Plans for the migration of machinery yard operations are also progressing.

"It was originally envisaged that the existing site would be sold to offset some of the costs of the new yard.

"However, given the central location of the site and the need for community services in Newbridge, this decision is being revisited by the management team.

"The members will be updated when a final decision is made," KCC added.

Speaking to the Leinster Leader after the meeting, Cllr Heavey said that, at a separate KCC meeting in the past, it was proposed for the site to be converted into a youth space, but 'at the last minute, it didn't make the draft policy.'
