KILDARE COURT: Easter eggs thief had 83 previous convictions

There is increasing concern over the future of Naas Courthouse

A man who stole two Easter eggs had 83 previous convictions.

Jason Finlay, 51, whose address was given as Loreto Hall, Peter McVerry Trust, 77A St Stephen’s, Dublin, appeared via videolink from prison at Naas District Court.

The defendant admitted the theft of the two eggs from the Naas Dunnes Stores premises on April 7, 2022.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court that the defendant was found with the items, which had a value of €15.

When asked by Judge Desmond Zaidan why he took the items the defendant said “I don’t know, I can’t remember.”

The judge was told that the defendant had 83 previous convictions, including 27 for theft.

Defending solicitor Matt Byrne said that while the defendant is in custody, he is nevertheless doing well.

The court was told he is currently serving a five months term.

Judge Desmond Zaidan applied the Probation Act.
