KILDARE ANIMALS IN NEED: Summer misses owner after sudden death

KWWSPCA Column

The sale of St Brigid Crosses provides a generous donation to the KWWSPCA. The KWWSPCA would like to thank most sincerely Kathleen Houlihan from Kildoon who made and sold a large number of St Brigid crosses recently and gave the proceeds amounting to €670 to the KWWSPCA.

Thanks also to Ger's Fruit and Vegetable shop in Kilcullen where they were sold.

Kathleen adopted a dog from the Society a few years ago, called Ivy. Two of our KWWSPCA rescue dogs, Wiley and Freddy, came along to help and Ona, Kathleen’s granddaughter, presented the KWWSPCA with the donation and two beautiful St Brigid crosses.

Also in the picture are Sally McCaffrey, Hon. Secretary of the Society, and Ger Wixted, who owns the shop.

Both Wiley and Freddy have now been adopted and gone to their forever homes.

Summer

Summer has not had much luck in her short life. She was first rescued in 2021 by an animal welfare organisation in County Leitrim. She was heavily pregnant and a very young stray who went on the deliver eight healthy puppies.

Summer then found what was supposed to be her forever home in Kildare. However, she was misfortunate once again when her owner very suddenly and unexpectedly passed away and there was no one else to look after her. After a traumatic few days, she is now in the care of the KWWSPCA but once again in need of a forever home.

Despite her past ordeals, she has settled in well to shelter life and is grateful for all the love and attention shown to her. She is about three years old, of mixed breed, healthy and robust and was obviously much loved by her previous owner. She loves play, especially chasing a ball and returning it, and being taken out for walks. She is very amiable but is quite strong on the lead so would require a fairly strong owner.
