Kildare County Council will be receiving €807,328 from the Community Recognition Fund.

The fund is designed to specifically support communities across the country that have welcomed and are hosting families and citizens from Ukraine and other countries.

Commenting on the announcement, Deputy Martin Heydon said: "This €807,328 in funding allocated to Kildare County Council from the Community Recognition Fund, announced by my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys, will be used to support a variety of initiatives that will be delivered in conjunction with community organisations in County Kildare."

"The Fund aims to support the development of facilities that will be used in the future by all members of the community, including sports clubs, community organizations, transport infrastructure, and local groups in recognition of the vital role that a thriving community plays in overcoming the collective challenges from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Deputy Martin Heydon, Fine Gael.

He continued: "Communities across Kildare have exhibited exceptional generosity in recent weeks, extending the open arms of hospitality and opening their homes and facilities to those fleeing war.

"I would like to encourage community groups across Kildare to engage directly with Kildare County Council in the coming weeks to ensure that high quality projects can be delivered from this funding, benefitting our towns and villages for years to come."

Kildare Senator and Fianna Fáil spokesperson Fiona O’Loughlin also welcomed the launching of a Community Recognition Fund.

She said: "This funding will support our communities in developing projects ranging from sports clubs, playgrounds and walkways, to community groups in areas such as arts, drama and music.

"The Department has published the full details of the scheme (including funding allocations) online, and applications are now being sought from local authorities on the basis of engagement with local communities and clear targeting of proposed projects to areas with the highest level of need," Senator O' Loughlin added.
