The decision was made at a meeting held in Kildare County Council's Headquarters at Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas
Local councillors overwhelmingly voted for Kildare County Council (KCC) to write to the Department of Defence about a housing estate in the Curragh.
The decision was made at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting on Wednesday, January 18, and related to a motion put forward by Fianna Fáil Cllr Anne Connolly.
Although Cllr Connolly, who also works as a full-time clerk with the Department of Defence, was not present at the meeting, her motion was instead proposed in her absence by her colleague, Cllr Suzanne Doyle.
UPDATE SOUGHT
The motion originally by Cllr Connolly called on KCC to liaise with the Department.
Specifically, the Rathangan-based representative requested 'an update on works carried out in Orchard Park, The Curragh with a view to expediate the process of the Taking in Charge of the estate.'
After being informed about the motion, those in attendance all agreed to go forward with Cllr Connolly’s motion at the meeting.
Fine Gael Cllr Mark Staffod said he welcomed the motion, adding: "There is a lack of funding in rural areas, but it is required.
"This is something that we need to be conscious of, not just at a local level, but at a county-wide level too."
Cllr Stafford also said that this was important given the 'rural-urban' divide present in County Kildare.
