LATEST: Trooper Shane Kearney no longer in critical condition

The Leinster Leader has just learned that Trooper Shane Kearney, who was injured in Lebanon last month, is no longer in critical condition.

The Department of Defence, which is headquartered in Newbridge, said that Pte Kearney is continuing with his recovery in Beaumont hospital.

A spokesperson for the Department said: "He is responding very well to treatment and is no longer critical, with his condition now described as stable. 

"The medical staff are satisfied with his continued and steady progress."

The spokesperson added: "The Defence Forces and Tpr Shane Kearney’s family wish to thank everyone for all the support that they continue to receive."
