KILDARE: 'Sigificant danger' to business park workers over road safety

The Bundle of Sticks roundabout, Naas

The safety of people working in a Naas business park is at risk because of the absence of a footpath.

Naas councillor Bill Clear wants Kildare County Council to build a footpath to the M7 business park from Newbridge Road at the Bundle of Sticks roundabout.

“This presents a significant danger to pedestrians and cyclists as there is no footpath where the road passes over the motorway bridge,” he said, adding that there are 70 enterprises in the park employing over 400 people.

“It should be done before next winter at the very least," he said.

Cllr Colm Kenny said that many people walk there or reach their places of work by scooter of bicycle.

According to Kildare County Council this is being examined as part of  the extension of facilities for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users, including cyclists across the motorway bridge.

The public consultation proposals are due to be published in 2023 and the preliminary design stage is underway in advance of this.
